We are delighted to present one of our favorite varietals from one of our favorite wine growing regions. McLaren Vale is situated about 20 miles south of the city of Adelaide in South Australia . The region is influenced by cool ocean breezes whilst still maintaining long hot ripening periods. The vines are of old European stock and this wine was taken from the vineyards of renowned grower and winemaker Simon Hackett. The wine was aged in 300 liter French Hogshead for around 18 months before bottling.
This style of Cabernet Sauvignon is more akin to the true Bordeaux style than that of the Napa Valley style. It has a lighter body but with rich concentration of dark berry fruits and mild yet perceptible tannins. This wine has a smooth finish and lingering fruits that make it a perfect match for grilled meats and roasted game.
The 2003 vintage has been earmarked as a great vintage and this wine will age well over the next eight years and should reach its peak and settle off around 2008.Having said that it tastes so good at present you should not tuck it away.
